I became a NICU nurse almost 16 years ago for my love of nursing and because I spent a lot of time in the NICU as a nurse extern during nursing school. I have learned through the years that NICU nursing has to be a passion and is a calling from God. I am passionate about improving outcomes for all moms and all babies.
As a mom myself, I experienced pre-eclampsia and delivered my son at 35 weeks. After a few hours in the NICU, he got transferred to my room and we were discharged home together. Not all moms who look like me have that story. Black moms are three times more likely to die from childbirth or childbirth related complications.
I joined the movement to create positive change for moms and babies everywhere, especially those most at risk.
