Keith and Hannah Everhart joined the movement to create positive change for moms and babies everywhere, especially those most at risk. They march for their three children. Josie and Ellie, premature twins born at 31 weeks gestation (now 16 months old) and their angel baby, Copeland. Josie and Ellie spent 7 weeks in the NICU at Fairview Hospital. Premature birth affects about 380,000 babies here in the United States and is something no child or parent should have to endure.
With preterm birth continuing to rise, they are committed to raising funds so that every family gets the best possible start. But they need your help. The money March of Dimes raises helps premature babies everywhere as March of Dimes puts a lot of money into research that has helped improve care for premature infants. Thanks to the research by the March of Dimes, Ellie was able to receive a drug called "Survanta", a lung surfactant that helped lubricate her lungs so they could expand and collapse until her body could naturally make a substance that full-term babies have in their lungs to perform that function. By being given this drug, Ellie was able to come off her ventilator.
