As a mom of two, nothing matters more to me than the health and safety of my children and the journey that brought them into this world. I’ve joined the March for Babies because every mom deserves a safe, supported pregnancy and every baby deserves a healthy start.
But the reality is heartbreaking, about 1 in 10 babies in the U.S. is born preterm, and maternal death rates continue to rise. Even more alarming, Black American babies are also about 1.5 times more likely to be born too soon, facing greater risks from their very first days. Black American moms are nearly three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white moms. Moms like nurse Janelle Green Smith or olympian Tori Bowie.
These are real women and real families who deserve better outcomes and more support. I’m raising funds to help improve care, support research, and advocate for moms and babies who need it most.
