This year I am going to be walking in the March of Dimes walk in honor of my niece and god-daughter, Maeve. I walk for Maeve, my sister, and my brother in law, as well as all of the families that are having to navigate life in a NICU.
On July 9th, 2023, our families' lives changed in a way we didn't know was possible. My sister and brother-in-law had my niece, Maeve, at 33 weeks. It was one of the most frightening days of my life, but also a day that I will remember forever. I watched along as my sister and brother-in-law had to navigate the next chapter of their lives beginning with 54 days in the NICU. The strength, bravery, and love that was portrayed by both my sister and brother-in-law was something that I will never be able to put into words. They handled this incredibly scary time with such grace and compassion, which they were in part able to do because of the support that they received from the staff of the Special Care Nursery. While there were so many uncertain days, there was one thing that we were always sure of, and it was that Maeve was so loved and that she was going to change so many people's lives.
Maeve is now a little spitfire, running around after any and all animals, repeating every word that she hears, and making us smile and laugh everyday. There will never be enough words to thank the staff of the Special Care Nursery that not only cared for Maeve, but cared for my sister and my brother-in-law.
I am walking in the March for Babies, so that every family that is navigating these uncertain times, can feel, loved and supported in the way I know that my sister, brother-in-law, and Maeve did.
I joined the movement to create positive change for moms and babies everywhere, especially those most at risk.
