MY STORY

Every day, thousands of babies are born too soon, too small and often very sick. Hopefully bringing awareness to this will give these tiny babies the fighting chance they need! Last year my little guy was born at 23 weeks. my pregnancy was completely normal until it wasn’t. I was sick for a week before I went to the ER and I was told I needed to deliver the baby right away. The doctors informed me I just hit the gestational age where a baby could be considered viable but the chances of survival were very small, probably less than 5%. Everything happened so fast, before I know it I was in the OR having an emergency c section. I was preparing for the worst news but I heard the tiniest cry and that gave me some reassurance. His first few weeks were touch and go everyday with him was a blessing. He got nicknamed Mighty Mav by the nurses and staff because he never gave up, he was and still is so fiesty. He spent 129 days in the Nicu and was discharged 16 days after his due date. Now at 10 1/2 months he is thriving, you would never be able to tell how hard he fought for his life.

When it comes to giving families the best possible start, we all have the power to help.

March of Dimes is dedicated to bringing people together to tackle America's maternal and infant health crisis—one person, one community, and one step at a time. More than a series of walks, March for Babies is an annual tradition that supports moms and babies every day, every step of the way.

March for Babies connects friends, families, and coworkers to improve the health of families nationwide. Together with March of Dimes, each step forward brings us closer to a healthy future for all.

Thank you for your support!
