Nineteen years ago, my life changed forever. At just 25 weeks, I gave birth to my twin boys, both born extremely premature. They weighed only 1 pound 6 ounces and 1 pound 12 ounces. My son Shymel (Baby B) spent four months in the hospital fighting to grow stronger — and he will be 19 this April.
His twin brother, Shamir (Baby A), bravely battled for nine months in the hospital before we lost him. Though our journey included unimaginable loss, it also showed me the strength of premature babies, the dedication of medical teams, and the critical need for continued research and support for families walking this path.
With preterm birth and maternal health challenges continuing to impact families, I’m committed to raising funds so that every family gets the best possible start. This cause is deeply personal to me — and I need your help.
