You never think it’ll happen to you. You think because you are healthy, you do everything right, you don’t drink, you don’t smoke, you exercise, you give up coffee... all that stuff. You think because you’re doing it all that you’re gonna have a healthy baby and a perfect pregnancy. I know this because I assumed the same. I’m walking for my son, Bennett, who came into this world at only 25 weeks weighing only 1 lb 12 oz, with a less than 50% chance of survival. I’m walking for all of the babies who fight for their lives in the NICU who know nothing else aside from being poked and prodded and who start to associate this as “home” and spend more time with the angels disguised as nurses than their parents. I’m fighting for those parents like myself and my husband who just want answers... answers to the “why us” and “why my baby?” The moms who get discharged from the hospital and have to leave their baby, only to spend all hours of the night watching the webcam and panicking when they see that it is turned off.. wondering if they’re just getting a diaper change or if their heart rates dropped and the nurse just didn’t get a chance to call. I’m walking because these tiny humans need me to, and because they deserve all the support they can get.
March of Dimes is dedicated to bringing people together to tackle America's maternal and infant health crisis—one person, one community, and one step at a time. More than a series of walks, March for Babies is an annual tradition that supports moms and babies every day, every step of the way.
March for Babies connects friends, families, and coworkers to improve the health of families nationwide. Together with March of Dimes, each step forward brings us closer to a healthy future for all.
