I walk in honor of my son, Joaquin. He was born six weeks early to save my life and for that, he will always be my hero. It was a scary time but I put my trust in the hands of the doctors and nurses at Children's Memorial Hermann. We were in the hospital for a combined 18 days. The continuous research and breakthroughs supported by March of Dimes helped my son and I make it out healthy. I was an advocate for March of Dimes before I became a mother and continue to do so because there is still so much more to do to give mothers and babies a fighting chance. Bringing life into the world is beautiful but it comes at a high risk for many. There are those who grieve a loss and those who never have the chance to have a child. For these and many more reasons, it is important to support the March of Dimes.
Today, Joaquin is a happy and healthy 9 year-old boy who loves to play soccer, draw, sing and play Minecraft. His dream is to play for Team USA in a World Cup.
