Hello! My name is Ashton, and I joined the movement to create positive change for moms and babies everywhere, especially those most at risk.
I was sent to the hospital via ambulance 3 weeks prior to giving birth with severe preeclampsia, which developed into HELLP Syndrome. Rori was born at 27 weeks gestation, 1lb 4oz, and was the first New Year baby at Wake Med! She was tiny but mighty, even from the beginning. Rori stayed at the NICU for 101 days.
We made lifelong friends with several of her doctors, primary nurses, NPs and therapists, without whom my journey would have been bereft, lonely and very dark. Rori is 2 years old now and we can't believe it! She is a spicy chili pepper most days, and loves to sing, dance and play with animals!
We are walking to bring awareness to the OTHER types of birth stories. The stories with scary beginnings, and terrifying endings. We are walking to support the mother's who didn't leave with their precious little one. We are walking for the mamas who have a NICU baby who is grown. We are walking for the NICU mamas there now, alone and afraid. We are walking to show strength and solidarity for the babies who are pushing the limitations of survival. We are walking for all the NICU families to come.
March of Dimes is dedicated to bringing people together to tackle America's maternal and infant health crisis—one person, one community, and one step at a time. More than a series of walks, March for Babies is an annual tradition that supports moms and babies every day, every step of the way.
March for Babies connects friends, families, and coworkers to improve the health of families nationwide. Together with March of Dimes, each step forward brings us closer to a healthy future for all.
Thank you for your support!
