On 10 December 2022, Gianna Antonina Caruso was born at almost 30 weeks gestation via emergency cesarian. Just two days later on 12 December, Philip and Bridget held Gianna as she passed from this world. Isabella and Luca never met their sister, but wave up to Heaven every day and know she sends rainbows and snow to say hi.
We have chosen to remember and honor the life of our sweet Baby Gia by participating in the DC March of Dimes walk. Bridget's pregnancy was unexpectedly high risk, and Gianna's status at birth incredibly complex. We had access to some of the best medical care in the country -- which ultimately saved Bridget's life and allowed Gianna to have a fighting chance, despite her premature birth. We know that so many families do not have this privilege and that preterm birth and maternal death rates continue to rise in the U.S.
