I feared because it was too early, I cried because it was too soon. Yet, I underestimated the strength in one as small as you ♥ In 2013 I delivered our daughter 15 weeks early. She was born weighing 1lb 11oz. She spent 106 days in the NICU at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, MA. We named our daughter, Mia which means 'wished for child' Jackeline which means 'may God protect'. Mia fought battles of chronic lung disease, PDA ligation surgery on her heart, three blood transfusions, a grade 2 brain bleed on her left side and a grade 4 brain bleed on her right side. We were given so much guidance and detail into all of the decisions and recommendations made for Mia's health and later on down the road during my pregnancy with her brother, Mason. She is honestly pure joy which just inspires me considering what she has been through. This is our 11th year walking for the March for Babies. I want to walk to honor my pint-sized hero. She fought so hard to be here and she has given me everything I ever dreamed of and more. I will never take for granted being able to walk these steps with her and her full term little brother, Mason.
March of Dimes is dedicated to bringing people together to tackle America's maternal and infant health crisis—one person, one community, and one step at a time. More than a series of walks, March for Babies is an annual tradition that supports moms and babies every day, every step of the way.
March for Babies connects friends, families, and coworkers to improve the health of families nationwide. Together with March of Dimes, each step forward brings us closer to a healthy future for all.
