A troubling report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that maternal mortality in the U.S. continues to rise. In 2021 alone, 1,205 women died from pregnancy-related causes—representing an almost 89% increase since 2018. While maternal deaths have increased across all racial and ethnic groups, the impact is not equal. Black women are 2.6 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than White women, and 2.5 times more likely than Hispanic women. These statistics reflect longstanding, preventable inequities in maternal and infant healthcare that we must urgently address.
As an educator and advocate for respectful, high-quality maternal and infant care, I see firsthand how education, accountability, and culturally responsive care can save lives. I’ve joined March for Babies because I believe every birthing person deserves to be heard, treated with dignity, and supported before, during, and after pregnancy—especially those most at risk.
I’m raising funds to support the education, research, and advocacy necessary to improve outcomes for moms and babies everywhere. But I can’t do this work alone.
Please consider visiting my fundraising page to make a donation. Together, we can help advance equitable maternity care and ensure every mom and every baby has the healthiest possible start.
March of Dimes is dedicated to bringing people together to tackle America's maternal and infant health crisis—one person, one community, and one step at a time. More than a series of walks, March for Babies is an annual tradition that supports moms and babies every day, every step of the way.
March for Babies connects friends, families, and coworkers to improve the health of families nationwide. Together with March of Dimes, each step forward brings us closer to a healthy future for all.
