My daughter Quinn was born at 29 weeks, weighing just 2 pounds, 3 ounces. She was immediately admitted to the NICU at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where she spent the first seven weeks of her life. Thanks in part to the research supported by the March of Dimes, survival rates for premature babies have continued to improve—but that didn’t make those early days any less overwhelming for my family. It was the most challenging and frightening time we had ever faced.
After Quinn’s early arrival, the thought of trying for another baby was terrifying. I constantly wondered, what if it happened again? But because of the groundbreaking research funded by the March of Dimes, I was able to follow a specialized medical plan during my next pregnancy. That plan made all the difference. My son, Logan, was born healthy and full-term in November 2016.
My family has directly benefited from the life-changing work of the March of Dimes—both with Quinn and with Logan—and we are forever grateful.
Let’s come together to give every baby the healthiest possible start by preventing premature birth.
