On January 8, 2012 we gave birth to our first son, Beau 8 weeks early. We did not even know what the NICU was and did not know all the obstacles that would take place in Beau's first 5 weeks of life. Then on July 13, 2013 after several days on hospital bedrest Hayden and Blake arrived 10 weeks early and would spend their first 4 & 9.5 weeks in the NICU. Again, they faced many obstacles, Blake more than any other due to his bilateral cleft lip and palate. While our birth stories were not the magical moment most parents experience, it unfortunately is the only birth story we have. We walk to help prevent other parents going through the emotional rollercoaster of the NICU and to be able to hold their babies after their births!
March of Dimes is dedicated to bringing people together to tackle America's maternal and infant health crisis—one person, one community, and one step at a time. More than a series of walks, March for Babies is an annual tradition that supports moms and babies every day, every step of the way.
March for Babies connects friends, families, and coworkers to improve the health of families nationwide. Together with March of Dimes, each step forward brings us closer to a healthy future for all.
