Our daughter Sutton entered the world 6 weeks early weighing just 4lb 14oz. Our beautiful, but fragile little miracle needed help right from the start.

Sutton spent 42 days in a Level III NICU at Texas Health in Dallas. 
Those weeks were filled with ups and downs — moments of fear, endless monitoring, and quiet prayers as we watched our tiny girl grow stronger each day. The compassionate team at Texas Health’s NICU cared for her around the clock, helping her learn to breathe, eat, and thrive. We are forever thankful for the Texas Health NICU team and the skilled doctors and nurses who became like family during our stay.

By the time Sutton was ready to come home, she had gained enough weight to reach a healthy 7lb 7oz at discharge. Seeing her grow from that tiny 4 lb 14 oz fighter into the thriving little girl she is today still brings tears to our eyes. She is our reminder that every baby deserves the best possible start — no matter how early they arrive.

That’s why the Smith Family family is walking in the March for Babies event in Dallas on April 18, 2026 at Levy Event Plaza in Irving. March of Dimes funds critical research, programs, and support that help prevent preterm birth, improve NICU care, and give families like ours hope during the hardest moments.
