We're once again doing this walk in Colden's memory with hope that research will lead to more answers and more treatments so that one day no new families will grieve for their babies. Please help us honor Colden and protect other babies by donating today. It's so hard to believe that we have survived for all these years without Colden. No matter how much time passes, there will always be a hole in our hearts and in our family where he should be. That is something we don't want any other family to have to experience. The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. We certainly saw the impact of the March of Dimes' work when our second child, Anna, was born two months early. Today she is a healthy, happy 15(?!!!!) year old due in large part to the work of the March of Dimes.
WHY WE'RE WALKING:
On December 17, 2008, when I was almost 35 weeks pregnant, I went into early labor so we rushed to the hospital with excitement. There we got the awful news that our son Colden's heart was no longer beating. We were so confused, angry, and sad. How could this have happened? Later we would find out that he died because of a massive infection. Yet the doctors don't have the research they need to truly understand why this happened or how to prevent it in the future. We also found out that we were not alone. In fact, over 26,000 babies are stillborn in the US each year and many, many more are premature, which can lead to agonizing outcomes. Since Colden died we have met many other families who've suffered the loss of their babies and who live with the lifelong ache for their children. There are many causes and so very many of them are unknown. We want to help put a stop to babyloss of all kinds.
Love,
Molly, Brendan & Anna
