My connection to March of Dimes began with our firstborn son, Wade Franklin Morris III. Wade was born on July 8, 2010, and passed away just 10 days later from CPT-2, a rare genetic metabolic disorder. In April 2011, less than a year after losing Wade, my family and I participated in our first March for Babies in his memory. At the time, I was pregnant with our second son, our rainbow baby, who was due that October. That first walk represented both remembrance and hope, honoring the son we had lost while looking forward to welcoming another child into our family.
What began as a deeply personal way to honor Wade soon became a family tradition and a lasting commitment to the March of Dimes mission. As a military family, we have moved nine times during my husband’s 17 years of service, but March for Babies has remained a constant wherever military life takes us.
We have been blessed with a great system and doubly blessed with our 2 rainbow babies. Every day, thousands of babies are born too soon, too small and often very sick.
