Five years ago, Carrie & Jason Estabrooks officially began their journey into preemie parenthood, when a routine 31 week pregnancy check up detected that her baby wasn't growing properly, and would be born early. Carrie made it just one more week before it became critical to deliver. Gavin Joseph was born on 2/7/12 at 32 weeks, and weighed 2 lbs. 9 oz. He spent 40 days in the NICU. His brother, Cullen Thomas, was born on 6/23/14 at just 27 weeks & 2 days, weighing only 14.8 oz. (420g). He spent 109 days in the NICU. Both boys were born prematurely due to IUGR(intra-uterine growth restriction). Carrie's placentas were failing, and blood flow in her umbilical cords was poor. She also had sudden onset severe pre-eclampsia with Gavin.
Carrie & Jason have been tremendously blessed to have had not one, but two preemies who have beaten all odds against them, and are now happy, healthy, thriving little boys! As our 2017 Mystic March for Babies Ambassadors, the Estabrooks family will have the honor of leading the walk on Saturday, May 13th at Olde Mistick Village, and we hope you will be there to join us!
