Our March for Babies celebration is still on, but it looks a little different! We are rapidly preparing for a new, virtualized event that will be fun and engaging for everyone. This change in format aligns with the newly released CDC guidance for large events, to help ensure the safety and health of our participants. More details on our new format to come soon!

We're getting ready to walk in March for Babies! It promises to be a fun day out with people who share our passion for improving the health of babies. There'll be family teams, company teams and people walking with friends - it's a great feeling knowing we're all helping real families. 2017 Tulsa Ambassador Bennett Giardino

Tony and Renée Giardino were thrilled to learn that they were pregnant with their little rainbow baby. They had lost two babies previously, but so far this pregnancy was going smoothly and baby boy was growing well. On May 8th, at 24 weeks, Renée was admitted to the St John Hospital in Tulsa, OK with sharp pains in her side. After some long nights of tests, the doctors discovered that she had HELLP syndrome. They believed that the baby would need to be delivered immediately, but, because Renée’s condition improved slightly, baby boy was able to stay in mom for a little while longer while being monitored on hospital bed rest. A week later, at 25 weeks, Renée took a turn for the worse again and the doctors said she needed to deliver immediately. Bennett was born on May 14th at 1lb 7oz. He was taken immediately to St. John NICU were they began fighting for his life. Bennett’s lungs were extremely underdeveloped and he needed to be placed on an oscillator, since the ventilator was too harsh for his little lungs. He was also given surfactant and steroid shots and had PDA surgery. He was diagnosed with chronic lung disease and the NICU doctors and nurses worked tirelessly to switch him over to the ventilator, CPAP, then a nasal cannula. On his 106th day in the NICU, a day after his due date and while still on oxygen, he was able to go home. Through prayer, his amazing doctors and nurses, and the lifesaving research done by March of Dimes, Bennett is not only off oxygen and medication, but is a happy, healthy toddler with no complications.
