Our March for Babies celebration is still on, but it looks a little different! We are rapidly preparing for a new, virtualized event that will be fun and engaging for everyone. This change in format aligns with the newly released CDC guidance for large events, to help ensure the safety and health of our participants. More details on our new format to come soon!

About March for Babies
We walk to give EVERY BABY a fighting chance. Thank you to all our dedicated walkers, donors and volunteers who have accepted the challenge to help fight premature birth, birth defects, and infant loss. We cannot achieve our mission without each one of you! The 2017 March for Babies will highlight the strength of families affected by premature birth, birth defects, and the loss of a child, celebrate the strides we’ve made towards accomplishing our mission, and applaud the fundraising efforts of our donors. On Saturday, April 29, we will come together at the RiverPlex and River Front Trail to support the March of Dimes. Our goal is to raise a total of $100,000 for a healthier future for all babies. March for Babies brings people together through events across the country and online while raising critical funds to tackle America's maternal and infant health crisis—one person, one community, and one step at a time. More than a yearly walk, March for Babies is a community. Families, friends, and co-workers can connect while raising critical funds for research, education, advocacy, and programs and services so moms and babies get the best possible start. 2017 Peoria Ambassador Kayley Thiel

When Megan Thiel’s water broke at just 25 weeks of pregnancy, she knew something was very wrong. She was admitted to the hospital, put on magnesium sulfate to try to prevent labor and given steroid injections to develop her daughter’s lungs. Kayley Thiel was born 12 days later at 27 weeks 2 days gestation. Kayley was immediately intubated and taken to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Kayley was given surfactant to treat her respiratory distress syndrome and spent over 50 days on oxygen support, 15 days of which were on a ventilator. She had bleeding on both sides of her brain, anemia, severe reflux that led to a feeding disorder, and jaundice among other things. Kayley spent 86 days in the NICU. Thanks in large part to medical advances from research that was funded by the March of Dimes, Kayley is a happy, healthy 8 1/2 year old with no apparent lasting effects of her prematurity.
