Our March for Babies celebration is still on, but it looks a little different! We are rapidly preparing for a new, virtualized event that will be fun and engaging for everyone. This change in format aligns with the newly released CDC guidance for large events, to help ensure the safety and health of our participants. More details on our new format to come soon!

About March for Babies

Join nearly 2,000 March of Dimes supporters for the 2018 March for Babies at Reston Town Center in Reston V.A. on Sunday, May 6! The route will take you on a three-mile walk through the surrounding neighborhood with a few checkpoints along the route that will provide rest and refreshments. When you return to the walksite, walkers can enjoy lunch and celebrate your efforts to help save babies with other event participants.

March for Babies brings people together through events across the country and online while raising critical funds to tackle America's maternal and infant health crisis—one person, one community, and one step at a time. More than a yearly walk, March for Babies is a community. Families, friends, and co-workers can connect while raising critical funds for research, education, advocacy, and programs and services so moms and babies get the best possible start. Because together, each step forward leads to a healthy future for us all. March for Babies. Every step counts!

The Peverill Family

Nineteen years after having their first child, the Peverills were pregnant with their second. At 18 weeks, their little miracle had already begun to descend into the birth canal. Upon getting the doctor for his opinion, they said, “There isn’t anything we could do. You’re 4 cm dilated and we don’t perform cerclages past 4 cm.” Their hearts were completely broken, but between the crying, pleading, and signing several forms, Lisa found herself in pre-op to have a surgery to save their baby. Four weeks after the surgery, Lisa awoke in the middle of the night in labor. Their baby wouldn’t survive at 22 weeks and doctors weren’t having success in stopping the labor. At some point, the Peverills were asked to plan for service arrangements as they were losing their baby. And then something happened. The contractions stopped, the pain was gone, and the baby’s heart rate returned to normal. On New Year’s Day, Lisa awoke realizing that she was hemorrhaging and her baby was flipping around. They rushed to Fairfax Hospital and 10 days later, Steele Montgomery Peverill was brought into this world via emergency caesarian. This 25-weeker was born weighing 2 lbs 1 oz and was screaming. Today, Steele is almost 5! You would never know he had less than a 10% chance to be born and a 10% to survive the NICU. He is a Tough as Steele little boy!
