At 29 weeks, Nicole Rider felt that something wasn't right, feeling faint and experiencing extreme swelling in her feet. A check revealed high blood pressure and after a doctor's office visit, Nicole was admitted to the hospital at just over 31 weeks gestation. The doctors explained just how sick she was, and that she would not be leaving until daughter Chloe was born. Her blood pressure increased and on the 8th day of hospitalization had spiked to 215/105. Nicole was prepped for an emergency C-Section and Chloe arrived on June 16 weighing 4 lbs., 7 oz.
After Chloe was wrapped and brought to Mom for a quick kiss, Dad Michael got to carry Chloe through the hallway. After Nicole's time in Recovery, she was allowed a quick stop in the NICU to hold the baby for a few minutes on the way to her hospital room. The next day, Father's Day, Michael got to feed Chloe and Nicole finally got to see her again that afternoon.
Chloe wasn't able to eat on her own, but managed to regulate her own temperature, and never needed oxygen. After 12 days in the NICU, Chloe got to go home to Nicole, Michael, and big brother Gavin weighing 4 lbs. 9 oz., and actually hit 5 lbs. on the Fourth of July! She is now a healthy, happy 6 year old!
