Hello! We are the Whitaker family, and this year marks our 10-year anniversary of Marching for Babies with Team Whitney’s Wonders! Our daughter, Whitney, was born 16 weeks prematurely in August 2008. She weighed 1# 7oz and measured 12” long. During her 208 days in the NICU, Whitney underwent multiple surgeries and fought through numerous infections and illnesses. Her early battle is never far from our minds as we reflect on how far she has come. Whitney is now a happy, healthy 10-year-old who loves 4th grade, friends, Harry Potter, and her iPad (of course)! We were fortunate to have a much longer (and uneventful) pregnancy with our son, J.R., who was delivered 3 weeks early in September 2013. Despite his whopping 7# 7oz birth weight (a giant in comparison to his sister) and 20” in length, his little lungs still needed more time. J.R. would spend 8 days in the NICU for additional respiratory support. He is now a full-of-energy, 5-year-old who loves Pre-K, Legos, and anything his big sister is doing! We feel very blessed. And we are thankful for the continued efforts of March of Dimes to fund research and education for healthy moms and babies in our community and state. So we continue to march in support!
