Important Update

Our March for Babies celebration is still on, but it looks a little different! We are rapidly preparing for a new, virtualized event that will be fun and engaging for everyone. This change in format aligns with the newly released CDC guidance for large events, to help ensure the safety and health of our participants. More details on our new format to come soon!

ABOUT MARCH FOR BABIES

COVID-19 is only compounding the current maternal and infant health crisis facing our nation. While much remains unknown about the virus and its effects on pregnant women, unfortunately, we know from past public health emergencies that pregnant and lactating women are often overlooked as interventions to prevent or treat the disease are developed and distributed. As we face this public health emergency together, it is more important than ever before that we continue to fundraise and rally to fight for the health of all moms and babies. We need your help now more than ever!

I want to reassure you that our March for Babies celebration is still on! We need your help in continuing to rally the community around our cause for healthier moms and babies. We rely heavily on the engagement and fundraising activities in the time leading up to our event to support research, advocacy, and programs dedicated to moms and babies. We are excited to share new, virtual ways for us to connect and fundraise in the coming weeks. We will share more details here and by emailing our participants.

And don’t forget - March of Dimes is here to serve as a resource for you, providing the latest information on COVID-19 on our webpage. You can also learn about our newly launched COVID-19 Intervention and Support Fund to ensure families stay informed about COVID-19, and that interventions are developed with moms and babies top of mind and then distributed so everyone across our country has access. The Royals

In 2017, I was pregnant with my first child. At about 14 weeks I was diagnosed with severe pre-eclampsia and almost 4 months later, Desmond was born at 29 weeks by C-section. He was a strong boy and was doing well in the NICU, even breathing on his own. Three days later, I received a call to come to the NICU right away. Desmond had gotten an E. Coli infection and his little body could fight it off. On July 24th, 2017, our sweet baby boy passed away. On December 10, 2018, our rainbow babies were born—identical twin girls, Savannah and Cheyenne. At 33 weeks, Savannah’s fluid level dropped and they were born weighing 3 lbs 7oz and 3lbs 14oz. They were in the NICU for 5.5 weeks where they did very well. They are just over 1 year old now and are doing very well. Our journey of loss has been, and still, is very tough, but we want to share our pain and our happiness to help other families that have or are going through the same kind of journey. Every year, we are so proud to participate and celebrate Desmond’s life and our girls. And this year we are so honored to represent the March of Dimes as the 2020 March for Babies Ambassador Family.
