The Plemmons Family
We always dreamed of a home filled with little feet, laughter, and the beautiful chaos of raising children. But the journey to our two daughters has been filled with more heartbreak, hope, and miracles than we ever could have imagined.
In March 2024, we welcomed our first daughter, Scottie Laine, after a healthy, full-term pregnancy. We never imagined that growing our family would look so different the second time around. Over the next year, we experienced three heartbreaking pregnancy losses. When we learned we were expecting for the fifth time, our joy was met with the fear and uncertainty that come with loving a baby you know you aren't guaranteed to bring home.
Our second daughter, Margot Louise, was diagnosed with severe fetal growth restriction at nineteen weeks, measuring below the first percentile throughout the pregnancy. We were told there was a very real possibility she wouldn't survive. Taylor developed preeclampsia and spent more than 50 days hospitalized as doctors worked to keep both mom and baby safe. Every additional day of pregnancy was a victory. Eventually, Taylor's condition progressed to HELLP syndrome, a life-threatening complication, and Margot had to be delivered at just 29 weeks in January 2026, weighing only 1 pound, 7.6 ounces.
For 82 days, the NICU became our second home. Our days were measured in ounces gained, milestones reached, and prayers answered. We divided our hearts between two daughters, one waiting for us at home and one fighting to grow strong enough to join her. After nearly three months, we finally carried Margot through the hospital doors and into the home where her big sister had been waiting.
Today, our girls are growing together, and the ordinary moments we once dreamed about have become our greatest blessings. Margot continues to amaze us with her determination, and we will never take for granted the gift of watching our daughters grow up side by side.
Our journey has shown us how quickly a healthy pregnancy can become high-risk, how fragile a baby's beginning can be, and how much families depend on extraordinary medical care. We know that not every family gets to bring their baby home, and we carry that awareness with us every day. We are honored to serve as a March for Babies Ambassador Family, sharing our story in hopes of bringing awareness, encouragement, and support to families facing uncertain beginnings. Every mother deserves a healthy pregnancy, and every baby deserves the strongest possible start.
