Important Update

Our March for Babies celebration is still on, but it looks a little different! We are rapidly preparing for a new, virtualized event that will be fun and engaging for everyone. This change in format aligns with the newly released CDC guidance for large events, to help ensure the safety and health of our participants. More details on our new format to come soon!

About March for Babies
We're getting ready to walk in March for Babies! It promises to be a fun day out with people who share our passion for improving the health of babies. There'll be family teams, company teams and people walking with friends - it's a great feeling knowing we're all helping real families. Join our event and walk with us to raise money for babies right here in our community!

March for Babies brings people together through events across the country and online while raising critical funds to tackle America's maternal and infant health crisis—one person, one community, and one step at a time. More than a yearly walk, March for Babies is a community. Families, friends, and co-workers can connect while raising critical funds for research, education, advocacy, and programs and services so moms and babies get the best possible start. Because together, each step forward leads to a healthy future for us all. March for Babies. Every step counts!

By participating in this March of Dimes event, you assume all risks related to attendance and acknowledge and consent to the event terms, including but not limited to March of Dimes' liability waiver and health and safety guidelines, as set forth in detail here.

The Washington Family

Amberley Washington and her husband Dommnique were thrilled to get pregnant after their first round of IVF in April 2016. Soon after, Dommnique, a member of the US Army, recieved orders to Osan, South Korea. The couple packed up their house and prepared to leave for Korea on September 30 but baby Nyla had different plans. Amberley's water broke on September 21, and she was admitted to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. One week later she went into labor and Nyla ws born at 24 weeks gestation, weighing just 1lb., 4oz. Nyla was immediately taken to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The first time Amberley saw her daughter she was shocked at "how small she was and overwhelmed by everything connected to her and the color of her skin. She didn't cry but her eyes were wide open." Mom and dad were able to hold Nyla when she was one week old using a technique supported by the March of Dimes called Kangaroo Care. This skin-to-skin way of holding an infant creates proven physical and emotional benefits for both baby and parents. Nyla recieved a few blood transfusions and fought one infection but grew stronger every day, reaching exciting new milestones. "We praised her and celebrated even the smalles accomplishment. Our stay in the NICU ended up being a little over 3 months. We ate, slept, prayed, laughed and cried there. We are thankful to the hospital and March of Dimes research that helped out baby. We learned that with love, patience and a little kindness from others, even the darkest situation can have a positive outcome."
