Our March for Babies celebration is still on, but it looks a little different! We are rapidly preparing for a new, virtualized event that will be fun and engaging for everyone. This change in format aligns with the newly released CDC guidance for large events, to help ensure the safety and health of our participants. More details on our new format to come soon!

We're getting ready to walk in March for Babies! It promises to be a fun day out with people who share our passion for improving the health of babies. There'll be family teams, company teams and people walking with friends - it's a great feeling knowing we're all helping real families. 2017 Saint Cloud Ambassador Rhett Carstensen

Carey and Eric Carstensen found out in May of 2015 that they would be welcoming their third child, Rhett in March of 2016. Little did they know that he would make his grand entrance to the world almost 13 weeks early! Carey found out very early in her pregnancy that she had a condition called placenta previa, a condition where the placenta covers the cervix. Placenta previa can cause severe bleeding that can potentially lead to premature birth. In December of 2015 Carey was transferred to the U of M by ambulance where she remained for the rest of her pregnancy. Her team of doctors set small goals at that time. First goal was to get to 28 weeks. Ideally the goal would have been to keep baby from being delivered before 34 weeks but Rhett had other plans. He was born at 27 weeks weighing only 2 pounds 7 ounces! Rhett flourished after he was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital and on March 4th 2016 they were able to take him home, 21 days before his original due date. His family was very excited because this little superhero came home weighing in at 6 pounds 1 ounce. Rhett is now a one year old on-the-go and loves playing with his sisters, Hayden and Shyla. Carey said, "The March of Dimes and their volunteers were with us every step of the way. They gave us encouragement and advice. They would let us know what to expect. We were taught infant CPR, got to do a photo shoot for him, gathered journey beads and much more." Without your help, these services would not be possible to all of our local families effected by our mission.
