Meet Rayna and Family
On January 6, 2017 our precious baby girl, Rayna Mae, was born. At 28 weeks and 3 days, she weighed just 2 lbs., ½ oz. and was 13 inches long. We heard a single ten second scream before the doctors and nurses put her on a breathing machine. They brought Rayna over to us so we could kiss her, but it wasn’t until 3 days later that we could actually hold our baby girl for the very first time. During our time in the NICU, we started asking questions about prematurity.
As we began researching premature birth, our doctors encouraged us to turn to March of Dimes. It was March of Dimes who gave us the resources, support and hope we needed to get through those worrisome 87 days in the NICU.
After almost three months in the NICU, Rayna was able to come home!During her first year, she needed help breathing and eating, and she underwent physical therapy to help with her development. Now, she is a
happy, healthy one-year-old who loves nursery rhymes, peek-a-boo and pat-a-cake. She is starting to walk with the help of mommy and daddy.
By participating in March for Babies, we all march forward together as fellow moms and dads, aunts and uncles, grandmas and grandpas, friends and coworkers. All of us are touched by prematurity and birth defects. All of us are advocating for research and policies to build a brighter future. All of us are united in HOPE. Our family is honored to walk with you on this journey!
