The Ronnquist Family

This year's Ambassador Family, the Ronnquist's, participate in March fro Babies in memory of their son and brother, Nash. Mom, Alana went in to labor and Nash was delivered by emergency c-section. He weighed 1 lb 10 oz and was 11.5 inches long. He appeared to be doing surprisingly well for a 24 weeker, and they spent every moment possible at his bedside. Over the course of the following days and weeks, the extent of his lung complications become clear. In addition to receiving three doses of surfactant and being on a ventilator, he was prescribed nitric oxide after being diagnosed with persistent pulmonary hypertension. Any little thing could set off an episode of pulmonary hypertension and he would require more and more oxygen. There were days that he required 100% oxygen and he still wasn’t circulating it properly. He also fought through various infections (sepsis, pneumonia, etc.), but somehow he continued to hang on and fight. He would look at mom and dad when they went to his bed side, he grabbed their fingers, responded to their voices, and loved kangaroo time. His team of doctors, nurses, and respiratory therapists worked tirelessly to give him the best possible chance given the challenging circumstances. Eventually, after 55 days, Nash could not fight anymore and passed peacefully in their arms on November 24th, 2015. Now Nash is a guardian angel and big brother! On March 20, 2017 at 37 weeks and 1 day, the Ronnquist's welcomed their beautiful rainbow baby, Maia. She weighed 7 lbs 12 oz and was 20 ¼ inches long. She experienced no breathing difficulty, no jaundice, no problems whatsoever! She is amazing and healthy, and they are so grateful for the care we received that allowed us to bring her safely in to the world.
