Our ambassador

Baby Jay Stanfield

In 2017, Tiffany and Jeff Stanfield were starting their family. At Tiffany’s 28-week appointment, she learned she was at risk for preterm labor and was given injections of potent steroids to accelerate Jay’s lung development. Two short weeks later, signs of labor began and Tiffany spent 28 days in the hospital on bed rest. At 34 weeks, weighing in at 5 pounds, “Baby Jay” was born. He was brought to the newborn intensive care unit (NICU) and put on breathing therapy, a feeding tube, and IV. Jay’s lungs were underdeveloped and he was given surfactant therapy. He spent his first four days at MUSC fighting for life, then his next 12 days at Summerville Medical Center learning to breathe and eat on his own. “Jay is here today thanks to the lifesaving research and programs of March of Dimes,” says Tiffany Stanfield. “As the Charleston ambassador family, we aim to inspire others to raise awareness and funds to give every baby a brighter future.”
