On July 4th, 2010 the unthinkable for my family happened. My son, Kingston, was born at 24 weeks and weighed only a pound and a half. At the time I honestly didn’t even think babies were born this early let alone survive. Kingston shocked us all and his strength and perseverance was a beacon of hope during his lengthy roller coaster stay in the NICU. Throughout the past 8 years, his strength has been one of the ultimate inspirations and motivations for me. I compete in ultra-distance trail running and before every race, I write his name on my knuckles. I hope that someday I can prove to him that maybe an ounce of his strength and mental toughness came from his dad. I have partnered with March of Dimes to raise awareness and support for the millions of babies who are born prematurely.
