Our ambassador

Atticus Krattinger

It was around Thanksgiving 2014 when Mary Ellen and Anthony found out they would soon be the parents of two babies under the age of two. Baby Atticus was due to arrive around July 13, 2015; instead, he made his grand entrance on April 22, 2015 at only 28 weeks gestation. The average baby weighs 2lbs. 4oz. at 28 weeks gestation and is about the size of a zucchini. Atticus was born via emergency C-section at 5:13pm on April 22, 12 weeks earlier than anticipated after a follow up growth scan showed he was measuring 4 weeks behind and he was in distress. At birth, Atticus weighed 1lb. 8oz., which is about the size of a papaya, Atticus was intubated, he received a quick kiss from his mother and was whisked off to the NICU where he could receive intensive care. His parents were told he had a 63% chance of survival. It was not until May 5, 2015 that Atticus’ mother was able to hold her son; it was another 80 days until he was strong enough to go home. During his 93 days in the NICU, the local nurse ambassador was sure to make every Holiday a special day for them, as they were there for Mother’s day, Father’s Day and the Fourth of July. This year Atticus turns five, he is in Pre-K, loves soccer, Muppet Babies, Mario Kart and is thriving.
