2022 Middle Tennessee Ambassador Family

The McMurry Family

What was thought to be an ordinary January day in my pregnancy soon turned into an unexpected early delivery and this is how our March for Babies story begins… I went to the doctor for a typical daily monitoring of the babies to find out that I was in labor and off to the hospital I went to have our girls. Our identical twins arrived at just thirty-two and a half weeks. Logan weighed in at 3lbs and 7.5 oz and Lauren weighed 2lbs and 8.5 oz. Both of our girls were healthy but small. After a brief glimpse at them, they were taken immediately to the NICU by the teams of neonatal doctors and nurses standing by in the delivery room. We were both excited and scared of the unknown, prayerful that they would be alright. After two weeks combined they both came home. Logan arrived home first, after fives in the NICU and Lauren came home after ten days. Those were the scariest days of our lives as parents. We were prepared to come home with two babies, not to come home alone. However, the Guardian Angels, NICU Nurses, at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, TN took excellent care of them in our absence. We traveled to the hospital twice daily to bond with them, breast feed and deliver milk. Luckily, we lived in Nashville and only had to travel 20 minutes to get to the hospital, unlike some parents we met who were there. We are forever grateful to the NICU staff at Baptist / St Thomas Midtown Hospital. Each year on their birthday our girls collect gifts for the babies and we deliver them to the NICU. After they arrived home, we were supported by Nurses for NewBorns, a service provided by the March for Babies. A nurse came to our home weekly to monitor the girls growth and development. The nurse alerted us to any areas that we should monitor or discuss with the pediatrician. She also provided extra support for any health related concerns. Fast forward to fourteen years later, Logan Elizabeth, baby “A”, is now 5’7”and plays on the golf team at her school. She is smart, witty and enjoys learning about other cultures. Whereas, Lauren Denise, baby “B” is now 5’ 7.5” and plays lacrosse. She, too, is smart, writes poetry and loves to read. Both girls aspire to become nurses. Thanks to their excellent prenatal care the sky's the limit as to what they can achieve. It is with great honor that we have been chosen to be the March for Babies Ambassadors for the 2022 fundraising campaign. Our team each year works very hard to raise money and give back to the organization that helped us have our greatest joy of being parents, We will be forever grateful to the March for Babies. Robert, Joan, Logan & Lauren McMurry
