About March for Babies

Every step counts.

March for Babies is a campaign that connects millions of Americans united to improve the health of moms and babies in your community and across the country.

Together, we can give families the health information and resources they need throughout their pregnancies, and fund groundbreaking research to transform lives. We're also advocating for policies to keep moms and babies healthy and strong.

Because together with March of Dimes, each step forward leads to a healthy future for us all.

Bay Area Ambassador Family

Englund Family

Jennifer and Cheyne spent years trying to grow their family, and after their third IVF transfer, they finally received the miracle they had long hoped for. Their joy, however, soon turned into concern. At 25 weeks pregnant, during a routine appointment, Jennifer was diagnosed with gestational hypertension. She was immediately taken off work and placed on twice-weekly monitoring. Over the following weeks, Jennifer was admitted to Labor and Delivery multiple times because of high blood pressure and other concerning symptoms. Each time she was eventually released, but her condition continued to fluctuate. At 32 weeks, Jennifer sensed something was not right and contacted her doctor, who instructed her to come in immediately. She was admitted again, but this time the situation changed—her diagnosis had progressed from gestational hypertension to preeclampsia. Doctors began a magnesium drip, administered a steroid injection for the baby’s lungs, and notified Jennifer that the local hospital did not have a NICU equipped to care for a baby born this prematurely. She was transferred to a hospital an hour away that could provide the level of care her baby might need. By the next day, Jennifer began developing symptoms of preeclampsia with severe features, making immediate delivery necessary. After receiving a second steroid injection, an emergency C-section was scheduled for the following morning. On July 12th, at 32 weeks and 5 days, Jennifer and Cheyne faced the overwhelming mix of fear and excitement that comes with meeting a long-awaited miracle under urgent circumstances. During the C-section, Jennifer’s blood pressure dropped to dangerously low levels several times. She was placed on oxygen and blacked out, waking later in the recovery room. At 3:08 p.m., Wyatt Fritz Englund entered the world weighing 4 pounds 5 ounces and measuring 16 inches long. He spent 20 days in the NICU, where he quickly earned the nickname “Trouble Maker” thanks to his strong spirit and determination. During this time, Jennifer and Cheyne stayed at a nearby hotel to remain close to their son, as the hospital was an hour from their home. On July 31st, Wyatt was finally discharged and came home—bringing with him an immeasurable amount of joy. He has been the greatest blessing of their lives.
