Treasure Every Step

December 29,1997, I went into pre-term labor and gave birth to my daughter at 1 lbs. 8oz.  This day changed my life forever, on so many levels. In one respect, I have been a champion for maternal & child health for over 20 years. The Linzey family's team, Treasure Every Step, is part of the movement to create positive change for moms and babies everywhere, especially African American mothers and babies across the US.  You may be surprised to see how NJ is doing ...

NJ maternal & infant racial disparities data:                          

• Currently, NJ is ranked 47th in the nation for maternal deaths and has one of the widest racial disparities for both maternal & infant mortality.
• A Black mother in NJ is 7x's more likely than a white mother to die from maternity-related complications 
• A Black baby in NJ is over 3 x's more likely than a white baby to die before their !st birthday
• Preterm birth rate among Black mothers (13.1%) remains much higher than among other racial/ethnic groups (8.3%-9.7%)(https://www-doh.state.nj.us/doh-shad)
