In 2016, at just 27 weeks pregnant, our son Cole made a sudden and chaotic entrance into the world, weighing only one pound, eleven ounces. As a mom, it’s impossible to describe the fear and uncertainty of being told your baby is safer outside the womb when you’re only two-thirds of the way through your pregnancy. Once he arrived, we began a two-month NICU journey at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Maryland. Those long 57 days were filled with emotions that often felt overwhelming and impossible to put into words.
During such a traumatic time, we were surrounded by an incredible amount of love and support, even from people we had never met. That kindness touched us in ways we will never forget. This is why we walk. We walk for the other babies and families who need that same love and support, especially those who aren’t as fortunate. We walk for our son Cole, the miracle he is, and to help spare future parents from the fear and trauma we experienced. This year marks a decade of walking as Team Cole & Company, and our once tiny baby is now thriving and turning ten.
