Our team, Delta Zeta Amicae of Charlotte is part of the movement to create positive change for moms and babies everywhere, especially those most at risk. Last year, the Delta Zeta Amicae of Charlotte assisted with a prematurity awareness event in November of 2024. The state of NC continues to have a D rating when it comes to prematurity and maternal health. This health disparity affects black and brown people more than any other demographic. Prematurity Awareness and the March of Dimes Walk bring needed attention and funding for education and research to this impactful cause. Our highlight this year is one Adrian Montrelle was born weighing in at 11.8lbs, he was born a month early, his mom had gestational diabetes. A condition that affects pregnant mothers. The mother is at risk of developing diabetes 2 after pregnancy or later in life. The cause is unknown and they believe race and age at onset of pregnancy may be a factor. The babies are larger due to the excess blood sugar from mom. The babies are born usually by C section and monitored while they try to regulate their own blood sugar on their own. His date of birth is November 4, 2024 and his is current weight 15.6lbs. He likes cooing, looking around at different sights and colors and tummy time. Sadly, this affects minority women at a higher rate, especially African American women. The Delta Zeta Amicae of Charlotte, take this cause personally and to heart!!
