Our team, Dantrell's Purpose, was created to draw awareness to a rare chromosomal condition called Patau Syndrome also known as Trisomy 13. Trisomy 13 occurs when an extra copy of the chromosome 13 is present in some or all of the cells. In 2024, my family was personally affected by Trisomy 13.
When I was 16 weeks pregnant, an amniocentesis test was performed and later confirmed that our son, Dantrell, indeed had this condition. It is truly heartbreaking because these infants often face life threatening complications. These complications may include heart defects, brain or spinal cord abnormalities, cleft lip or palate, extra fingers or toes, low birth weight, intellectual disabilities, seizures, poor development of lungs, and hypotonia (weak muscle tone). On March 12, 2025, Dantrell was born at 36 weeks and 2 days. He was 5 pounds and 5 ounces.
We named our son Dantrell, which means “God is my judge.” His middle name was Ethan, which stands for "strong," "enduring," "firm," and "long-lived". He truly lived up to his name. He was a fighter up until the very end and made his presence felt. Although the odds were against him from the very beginning, we never gave up on our little Prince.
His life was short-lived, but he brought so much love, joy, comfort, and hope to our lives. He was truly a blessing from God and changed our lives forever. His journey ended on March 13, 2025.
We treasured every moment we spent with him and knew he was placed on this earth for a reason. We lean on Proverbs 3:13, which says “Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding.”
We joined the March of Dimes to support countless others in drawing awareness to such a notable cause. We stand with family and friends who were/are affected by a miscarriage, ectopic pregnancies, fertility issues, infant loss, maternal death, birth defects, and fetal/infant deaths.
