Illinois has a preterm birth rate of 10.3%; Cook County 10.6%. When you factor in race and ethnicity, the preterm birth rate among black women is 48% higher than the rate among all other women. This statistic overwhelmingly affects the community we serve here at Advocate Trinity Hospital. This disparity is staggering and frankly appauling. Over the years, the March of Dimes has worked to improve the health of all moms and babies by preventing premature birth, birth defrects and infant mortality. It's mission is to work through community programs, advocacy, research, education and support of families currently in the NICU.
We want to do our part to help in this effort! We know some behaviors that contribute to premature delivery are: smoking, alcohol and elicit drug use and little-to-no prenatal care throughout pregnancy. These factors are all too prevalent in the community we serve at Advocate Trinity Hospital. We need your help to reverse the desparities and reduce the number of babies born prematurely. Join Team Trinity in the March of Dimes Walk for Babies on April 24th at the Lakefront. And if you can't March for Babies, support our team through donation and be comforted in knowing that your contribution can help to change lives!
March of Dimes is dedicated to bringing people together to tackle America's maternal and infant health crisis—one person, one community, and one step at a time. More than a series of walks, March for Babies is an annual tradition that supports moms and babies every day, every step of the way.
March for Babies connects friends, families, and coworkers to improve the health of families nationwide. Together with March of Dimes, each step forward brings us closer to a healthy future for all.
Thank you for your support!
