Every year, half a million babies in the U.S. are born prematurely. Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death and many life long disabilities. The funds we raise in March for Babies support research that saves babies' lives. Alissa Sustarsic's sons, Aiden and Carson were born at 32 weeks, on April 15, 2006, weighing 4lbs 4oz each. They remained in the NICU for 4 weeks and were initially on ventilators and feeding tubes. They were treated for jaundice and they both have a Level 1 IVH. Aiden also had bradycardias, which prolonged their stay. They both went home with no monitors and all of their checkups have gone well so far. March of Dimes helped them cope with this difficult time by giving support through books and events that helped them understand what to expect and what could be done to help their boys get better and come home quicker. We've formed our March for Babies team to raise money to help all babies be born healthy. Please join us in this important endeavor. Simply sign up from this page. The money we raise helps fund research to find out why premature birth happens and what can be done to prevent it. Premature birth is the #1 cause of newborn death and the biggest threat to babies' health today. Can you think of anything more important than the health of our babies? If you can't join us, please donate to our team from this page. It's fast, easy and secure.
