My daughter Lucy, now 18, was born 6 1/2 weeks early back in 2006 and spent 29 days in the NICU. As a first time mom, I felt unprepared, nervous and helpless as Lucy lay in the incubator with tubes in her nose, wires stuck to her fragile body and the endless beeps of machines. When we finally did take her home, she was on a heart monitor for 3 months until she caught up in weight, feeding and developmental milestones. Not all babies are as fortunate as Lucy and that is why I serve as a volunteer leader with the Greater Philadelphia/South Jersey March of Dimes and advocate for all moms and babies.ย ๐
The Why took on a deeper meaning after my husband and Lucy's dad died suddenly 6+ years ago. Lucy, her sister Maddy and I now walk each year not only to celebrate Lucy but to honor their Dad who was our biggest supporter. I will never forget how he was my rock and support during those harrowing NICU days and was the ultimate #girldad in caring and loving his girls. Despite our loss, I still feel so much gratitude for the life we shared and especially for that support during my pregnancy and a dailyย reminder the work we need to do to ensure ALL moms and babies can experience positive outcomes during their pregnancy journey.
The funds I raise will directly enable March of Dimes to support research, lead programs and provide education and advocacy that truly makes a difference to families in our community right here in Philly and SJ.ย ย
If you believe, like I do, that every baby deserves the best possible start, that every mom deserves access to healthcare and resources to ensure a healthy outcome, please WALK with my girls and I on April 5th or make a donation today to support this community effort.ย
Together we can fight for the health of all moms and babies.
ย
With much gratitude and appreciation,
Cynthia, Lucy and Maddy ย ย

With preterm birth rates continuing to rise, the U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth, especially for women and babies of color.
At March for Babies™ you're lifting up communities, creating connections and taking action to make America a more equitable place and ensure that every mom and baby is healthy.
Together, weโre marching to raise funds and awareness to transform the health of all families!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
