Meet the Boyle Family
As a practicing OB/GYN, I remember being pregnant and holding my breath after about 24 weeks, knowing those babies will probably live, but will also probably have problems. After about 30 weeks, I remember sighing a little relief, but looking forward to the next milestone of full-term.
<P>
At 34 weeks, our 5-pound, 8-ounce Mary Kate was born. In the NICU, I felt so blessed. I had the largest baby there by far. She seemed like a giant next to some of the others.
<P>
She was small for a while, but by about 6 months, had caught up to her age. Now she's in third grade, a soccer-playing ballerina who is learning to play piano.
<P>
When we became pregnant with our second baby, I was worried. Thankfully, the March of Dimes has helped support research to help reduce the risk of recurrent preterm birth. I was able to take progesterone shots from weeks 16-36. Our daughter, Clare Louise, was born at full-term, weighing 7 pounds, 4 ounces.
