The Kosirog Family

Nicole and Steven Kosirog are proud supporters of the March of Dimes, joining the fight for healthy moms and strong babies. In 2023, their son Jack was born 10 weeks premature and spent 34 days in the NICU. Despite a smooth pregnancy, a sudden onset of preterm labor changed everything. During his NICU stay, Jack’s underdeveloped lungs made remarkable progress, transitioning from CPAP to oxygen and, eventually, to breathing room air. He also underwent surgery for a triple hernia repair. Although his recovery was challenging, Jack continued to make impressive strides. As he grew, new obstacles emerged. Due to his early birth, Jack was born with two holes in his heart. His family was relieved to learn at his 6-month follow-up that the holes were 99% closed. At eight months, Jack was diagnosed with a condition that required eye patching and glasses. By the time he turned one, he experienced gross motor delays, prompting further testing. After a long journey, Jack was diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy at 18 months. Doctors explained that this was a result of his premature birth, which caused some brain damage and increased muscle tone in his legs. Despite wearing leg braces and using a walker, Jack is determined to walk independently. He thrives in therapy, music, gymnastics, and swimming, staying active, joyful, and always ready for new challenges. The Kosirog family is constantly inspired by Jack’s resilience and spirit, and they are deeply grateful to the March of Dimes for its efforts to prevent premature births and support NICU families. As both a mom and NICU nurse, Nicole is passionate about helping others through uncertain times. She and Steven invite you to join them at the DuPage March for Babies on May 18th to hear their story and support moms and babies every step of the way.
