Walt and Lauren Bowie were married in March of 2010 and welcomed their first baby, Fenley Grace, just 6 weeks short of their
one-year wedding anniversary. Two years later, in March of 2013, the Bowies were surprised to find out they were expecting
again – this time with a baby boy. On, October 17th, 2013, William “Wills” Lamar Bowie was born at Baptist Hospital.
Unfortunatley, the Bowies did not have a normal preganacy. Lauren found out at 25 weeks gestation, that Wills had been
diagnosed with a chromosomal abnormality called Trisomy 18 (3 copies of the 18th chromosome). 50% of babies with this
diagnosis do not make it to birth alive. Of the 50% that do make it to birth, 90% do not see their 1st birthday. Wills lived his first 5
days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Baptist Hospital. Little did they know that neonatologist, Dr. Thomas Saltau,
and several nurses were devising a plan to get Wills home. On Day 5, Wills was discharged and was able to spend 10 days with
his big sister, dad and mom. Wills was dedicated by their pastor in the backyard, to the serenade of a weed eater. On his 15th
day, November 1st, 2013, Wills was called home to Heaven. He died peacefully and pain-free in Lauren's arms, an answer to
many prayers. The Bowies are proud supporters of March of Dimes and are hopeful that the research funded by donors like
you will allow no other parent to experience a story like theirs.
