March for Babies Ambassador Family

The Miller Family

We had an uncomplicated pregnancy that was fairly uneventful until 34 weeks 3 days, when I started to have some symptoms of high blood pressure. After several tests it was determined the boys needed to come immediately. Our twins, Decker and Daxton, were born at 12:13pm and 12:14pm that day. I was worried for the health of our twin boys, since I was only 34 weeks and 6 days. I heard their first cries, but I wasn’t able to hold them due to the NICU team needing to check them out immediately. That was one of the toughest and scariest moments of my life. When I was well enough to visit the NICU the next morning, it was very overwhelming to see our boys hooked up to so many machines. It was hard to leave them without being able to hold them, but I knew they were in amazing hands. They were the strongest babies I knew and I looked forward to a day when we would all be home together soon. We were blessed when Daxton was sent home just six days after birth, but it definitely hurt to know Decker was now alone in the hospital. Thankfully Decker was able to join the family at home three days later. We are so grateful to the March of Dimes- their work gave our children the best start at life. Every mom and baby deserves that same healthy start at life.
