Our March for Babies celebration is still on, but it looks a little different! We are rapidly preparing for a new, virtualized event that will be fun and engaging for everyone. This change in format aligns with the newly released CDC guidance for large events, to help ensure the safety and health of our participants. More details on our new format to come soon!

ABOUT MARCH FOR BABIES

Join the movement

When you join March for Babies, you’re joining the movement to improve health outcomes for families because our country is facing a maternal and infant health crisis. It’s unacceptable. Each year, one woman dies every 12 hours from pregnancy and childbirth complications, two babies die every hour, and 1 in 10 babies is born too soon.

As a March for Babies community, we’re better together. Whether individually or on teams, we’re all over the country becoming a part of an even larger movement to help March of Dimes work to close the health equity gap and end preventable maternal and infant risks and death.

Together at March for Babies: A Mother of a Movement™ we will UNITE, CONNECT, HONOR, and CARE for every family to improve maternal and infant health. We’ll support every family with health education and resources. We’ll help fund research to change the future of our children—and our children’s children. We’ll push for policy changes that protect moms and moms-to-be.

The Kalair Family

We found prematurity in a way most people find it…completely unexpected. No scares, no past medical history, nothing to make us believe this could be dangerous. I was expecting twins, a boy and a girl. My babies were born at 26 weeks and they went straight to the NICU, where they were stabilized and cared for. Discharge day was the worst. Leaving to go home after a cesarean section was bad enough, but having to leave my babies in the NICU and arriving home empty handed was such a heartache that scarred us for life. Unfortunately, on day 10, we lost our sweet baby boy. This is a loss that will forever leave an empty space in our hearts. It was day 12 when my sweet girl, my only child at that time, was stable enough to be held and do skin to skin for the first time. That day was so reassuring, to finally be able to hold my baby. It gave me the strength needed in that moment while grieving the loss of her baby brother. From that day on, we spent a total of 77 days in the NICU. We laughed, we cried, we learned, and most importantly we remained hopeful that our baby girl had good care and that she will come home with us. She is now a thriving four year old! Our mission is to support and empower families navigating the unexpected journey of prematurity, having experienced the heartache of losing our baby boy and the miraculous survival of our baby girl. We aim to provide hope and resources to those who, like us, find themselves in the NICU unexpectedly. Through our advocacy and fundraising efforts, we strive to ensure that all babies receive the best possible care and that families receive the support they need to thrive. We march in honor of our son, our daughter, and for every baby who deserves a healthy start in life.
