It's been nine years since we lost our little girl, Ella Marie, but she has never been closer to our hearts. She is alive in every one of us, and Her Light Shines On!!! To date Ella's Fellas has raised nearly $150,000, and it's all because of the amazing support of our Ella's Fellas family! Any donation, big or small, is greatly appreciated and will go to a very special cause--to help EVERY baby get a healthy start! For those that don't know our story by now....we were married in 2007 in the fairytale wedding that surpassed our wildest dreams. Shortly thereafter, we were incredibly excited to find out that we were pregnant!!! At our 16-week ultrasound, we were told that we were having a baby girl. However, the doctors came in to tell us that our baby had a heart defect that would be fatal if not operated on shortly after birth. We worked hard to get her the best doctors possible, and wound up choosing the surgical team at Columbia University Hospital in New York City. It is there that Sabrina would spend months, in and out, dealing with her premature labor. After 3 days of labor, the magical day came. Ella Marie was born 7 weeks premature on December 6, 2007. She was whisked into the NICU and spent her time there until she had open heart surgery at 6 days old. Ella fought through subsequent invasive surgeries, and even under tremendous doses of sedatives, still managed to open her eyes for us every time we were by her side. Unfortunately, Ella's spirit was much stronger than her body, and she succumbed to complications when she was just 17 days old. We loved her before she was born and even more now that she is gone. As Ella took her last breaths in our arms, we promised to keep Ella's memory alive and to help others in her name. Our Motto: Her Light Shines On!!! Where did that originate? "Ella" is Greek for "bright light". Those who attended her funeral, an estimated 300-400 people, sang "This Little Light of Mine" like a choir of angels, to send our baby girl home. It was from that moment on that we knew we had to do whatever we could to keep Ella's bright light shining for all to witness. Our work with the March of Dimes allows us to do just that. The March of Dimes champions the needs of moms and babies in our community and across the nation. The money we raise for March for Babies will support lifesaving research, services, education and advocacy that help babies. Please help by donating today!
