Why I walk
Like many couples, Charles and I decided that we wanted to start a family after being married for a little while. We were overjoyed at seeing those two pink lines, and then those two little heartbeats. We knew there were risks with having twins, we knew they may very well come prematurely but we never once imagined that they would come so soon that they were too little to even make it into the NICU. And then it happened, after having what seemed like Braxton Hicks contractions we discovered that our little girls were coming, much too soon. They were born at 20 weeks and 5 days along, a little over three weeks before the official age of viability, the point at which there is a chance that they could be saved. So instead of cuddling our newborn baby girls, and marvelling at every little movement and milestone, we cried over their lifeless bodies and went home with empty arms and empty hearts. Since that moment, the march of dimes has been very near and dear to my heart, providing support to me in my time of need, and also continuing the research to keep this from happening to other families, and even us again.
Please join our team and walk in memory of Emilyn and Hailey! All of you are scattered across the United States, so we won't all be able to walk together, but you can change the event to a location that is closer to you and walk there as a part of our team!
You can watch our story at the following site.
Every day, thousands of babies are born too soon, too small and often very sick. I'm walking in March for Babies because I want to do something about this. And I need your help.
Please support my walk. Making a secure donation is easy: just click the 'donate now' button on this page. Thank you for helping me give all babies a healthy start!
