Why I walk
John was born on Easter morning April 12, 2009 at 28 weeks and 6 days weighing 4 pounds and 1 ounce. He was very ill with a bacterial infection. In the beginning it was hour by hour. Within the first 48 hours of his life we were faced with a decision: did we want to continue support? We did not get to hold him for the first 11 days of his life. During his 7 weeks in the NICU he was on an Oscillator, Ventilator, Continous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), and a Nasal Canula. His first trip was in an ambulance to Children's Hospital where a VP shunt was inserted to relieve pressure in his skull.
John is with us and thriving today because of the research and treatments funded by the March of Dimes.
Every day, thousands of babies are born too soon, too small and often very sick. I'm walking in March for Babies because I want to do something about this. And I need your help.
