Our son, Ryder Lane Whisenant, was born 8 weeks early due to placental abruption. If not for a routine non stress test, I do not believe he would be here with us today. Our doctors caught his heart rate dropping and I had an emergency C-section a few hours later. He weighed 3 lbs 7 oz at birth, the 10% for his gestation. I had received the steroid shots for his lungs a week prior to delivery, so he was only on oxygen for 48 hours! We brought him home after 24 days in the NICU. He is now 3 years old and finally weighs 30 lbs! We were very blessed to be able to share our story as the Ambassador Family for Lubbock's 2016 walk.
I am also walking this year for a family who has suffered devastating loss twice now due to placenta issues. There is so much room for improvement in preventing pre-term deliveries and still births. One in nine babies is born prematurely, and we have seen the NICU save lives. Please help us support these babies!
The March of Dimes statement is below: Every day, thousands of babies are born too soon, too small and often very sick. I'm walking in March for Babies because I want to do something about this. And I need your help. Please support my walk. Making a secure donation is easy: just click the 'donate now' button on this page. Thank you for helping me give all babies a healthy start!
